Join us as we camp for the Labor Day weekend at Moose Lake State Park in Moose Lake, MN (http://tinyurl.com/27w8vbp). We have the group campsite reserved from September 3 to 6. Moose Lake is surrounded by fields, woods, ponds, and fishing lakes. This is what makes this park quite special for hiking, canoeing, biking, and fishing. The Willard Munger trail is just two miles west of the park and it stretches 60 miles from Hinkley to west Duluth. The group site and firewood are included in the $7.50 per person per night fee. A MN State Park annual permit ($25) or a $5/day permit is required for each vehicle. We will have the traditional Outwoods potluck on Saturday around 7 PM; bring something to share.
Moose Lake is less then an hour from Duluth and the it is Gay Pride in Duluth that weekend.

Adopt-A-Highway
Dear Outwoods members, the board applied to adopt a stretch of highway as part of the Adopt-A-Highway program.
The AAH program from MNDot has accepted the application and granted us the stretch of Highway 100 between 50th and 36th Ave northbound in Edina, MN, which is about 1.8 miles.
This is a very exciting moment for Outwoods. We are contributing to the community in which we live, work, and play. Which aligns with one of the core values of Outwoods of protecting and conserving the natural environment.
The details of the program are simple; we have to clean the highway at least twice a year for a two year period. The program is designed to keep roadsides clean.
The State (MNDot) provides a training video, vests, trash bags, and pick up for the days of the clean up. The State also provides a free recognition sign, the sign will read:
OUTWOODS OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL CLUB
Here is a link to the States website for more information about the Adopt a Highway Program (AAH) Adopt a Highway We are looking forward to leading an event where we can go out and clean part of the highway that we use everyday.

A call for photos for an Outwoods photo show!
We'd like to curate an Outwoods Camera Safari Photography show. We could have the show on Facebook thereby avoiding printing and framing costs, but I'd be open to setting a show up in a physical space too. I'd like to hear from anyone who'd like to participate in showing their work. Contact Steve at

Website volunteers needed! No experience necessary!

The term of our current webmaster is nearing its end and two members of the Outwoods board are taking this opportunity to redesign the website using a content management system (Joomla). The new website will have logins for all Outwoods subscribers to allow for user contributions and it will combine the functions of our current website and our Yahoo group (and possibly our Facebook page). We are looking for volunteers to help administer the website once the redesign is completed. Help with the redesign would also be appreciated. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more about website design and maintenance while contributing to our organization. No experience is necessary, as Joomla is very easy to use. The ongoing website work can be divided among multiple administrators to reduce individual workloads. Contact a board member with questions or to express an interest.

Outwoods and Pride 2010
We had an amazing PRIDE! For some it has never been such a fulfilling, busy PRIDE weekend. We had a wonderful turnout at the booth, a great looking booth and location. It was wonderful to see all those who stopped by to chat. The club has come away from the event with many new ideas and many new friends. We gave away all of our newsletters and had requests for more. We hope all those who volunteered had a good time. You're all fantastic and all of the club subscribers are sincerely grateful. .
